Peterson Cartridge Co. of Pittsburgh, PA today announced the addition of 6.5-300 Weatherby to its growing family of rifle casing calibers.

Remington hit a home run back in 1962 when they introduced their new Model 700 bolt action rifle, along with a brand-new belted magnum cartridge, the 7mm Remington Magnum. It became an instant hit with big game hunters and shooters largely due to its versatility and longer barrel life compared to Winchester’s .264 Winchester Magnum.

Introduced by Norma in 1999, the 6.5-284 Norma is a standardized version of a concept that gunsmiths and wildcat fans have been doing for years. 

Featuring a 40-degree Ackley-type shoulder and 10 percent more case capacity over the parent 6mm BR case, the 6mm Dasher has been used to set records in the 600 and 1,000-yard benchrest community, and has become a favorite among competitors in the Precision Rifle Series as well. 

Peterson Cartridge Co. of Pittsburgh, PA announced it is producing .300 Win Mag casings in two versions. Peterson makes the traditional SAAMI spec’d version that headspaces off the belt. But it also makes a version that headspaces off the shoulder. Peterson calls that version the .300 Win Mag- Long.

The .280 Ackley Improved casing will launch a 7mm, 120 gr. bullet over 3,400 fps. The .280 Ackley has a similar velocity to the 7mm Rem Mag, when using light to mid-weight bullets. It also tends to produce less recoil, and less muzzle blast.

With good shot placement, the .280 Rem is suitable for hunting any game in North America. In the hands of an expert shooter, and if the rate-of-twist is correct for the projectile, the .280 Rem can be effective out to 1,000 yds.
