Peterson Cartridge Introduces .340 Weatherby Magnum

Pittsburgh, PA (July 2022) – Peterson Cartridge Co. of Pittsburgh, PA announces the addition of .340 Weatherby Magnum to its growing family of rifle casing calibers.

When Winchester released their .338 Win Mag, Roy Weatherby felt his company needed to respond.  And respond they did, in a big way, with the .340 Weatherby.  Introduced in 1963 and based on the .300 H&H Magnum, the .340 Weatherby Mag outperforms the .300 Ultra Mag, .338 Win Mag, and rivals the .375 H&H.  Its flatter shooting, harder hitting characteristics make it ideal for even the largest of North American big game and more than suitable for any excursion to the African Serengeti.

“While we were discussing potential calibers for development, it was suggested that we look at the .340 Weatherby Mag,” says Derek Peterson, president of Peterson Cartridge.  “When we did, we saw that only a couple manufacturers were making it.  We felt its place in history was too important to ignore, so we decided to add it to our line-up.  Load some up and let us know how we did”.
